I believe that birth is a sacred Rite of Passage. It is sacred because it holds all of existence.

Birth is a profound ritual that women have been dancing with for millions of years. All those who have walked before and all those who will come after are informing the process of the unfolding. A child is born, and so is a mother. Matrescence (according to anthropologist Dana Rafael) is the birth of a mother. It is with love and presence that I hold your hand during this Sacred Transition.

And I honor your personal story. Each transition into parenthood is unique. Whatever the outcome of your pregnancy, I am here with you. I will advocate for and support *your* choice and *your* intuition.

"Dakota is a woman who is deeply passionate about working with women in various ways. She shows up wherever she is serving with her full heart, vast range of knowledge, ancient woman wisdom, rooted intuition, humble enthusiasm and profound capacity to be present. I deeply trust Dakota as she deepens on her path of serving women throughout these sacred thresholds of life." ~Jennie

When I was in high school, my mother gave me Ina May Gaskin's famous book, "Spiritual Midwifery". After leafing through its pages and seeing image after image of hippies on The Farm birthing their babies in buses, I knew at that moment that I needed to be a midwife. I knew I needed to work with women and families during one of the most transformational experiences in life.

It is deep within my bones that I am called to hold space for birthing families. I started at a young age and did everything I could to gain a broad spectrum of experience to make me the best doula and student midwife I could be. My trust in the process of birth lays the foundation for the space I hold. I am guided to work quietly, patiently. I call forth a container of listening and receiving to hold a space of safety, love, and trust so that my clients can invoke the strength and courage needed to birth their baby.

I have attended births from the hot, thick air of Bali, Indonesia to yurt-births on farms in rural Vermont to high-intervention hospital births. I have also held space for loss and grief and am passionate about full spectrum work, as well. I have gathered many different tools from many great experiences, teachers and families on my path and I am humbled.

I am humbled by the power of birth and death, by the power of birthing people and their families bringing their legacy into this world with so much courage and grace. I am humbled -- and ready to serve. I look forward to hearing from you.
